I've always had an interest in photography, reaching back to when I was a child. But I honed my skills and began a profession as a photographer in 2008 when the housing market crash forced me to close my small business in civil engineering and utilize my hobby as a photographer to generate an income. I've never looked back!
I moved to Arizona in 1990 to attend ASU and afterwards started a life in Tempe. I moved to Gilbert in 2004 where I raised my son and two daughters and I'm still in the same house we moved into all those years ago.
My kids are my muse and reason for my main photographic passion - sports photography. I've photographed my kids playing everything from baseball, softball and soccer to volleyball, football, and lacrosse .... they're athletic! My range is much wider, of course, and I photograph sports, seniors, headshots, real estate, maternity, and anything on the other end of my lens.
My "real job" is a photography instructor at the East Valley Institute of Technology. There I get to pass along my knowledge and skills to the next generation of photographers and sharpen my skills on a daily basis. Teaching was never a consideration for me until after that first day ... now I love it!

My first career was in civil engineering ... yes, the opposite end of the spectrum from photography. A small husband/wife design firm called Fine Line Drafting showed us the bright side of owning a business. Life threw us a curve and I quickly converted that firm to a photography business called ... well, Fine Line Photo! Years ago another curveball pushed me to pursue teaching photography and that's been a blessing and a perfect compliment ever since.
Deciding what I wanted to be when I grew up had me attending a few universities while figuring it out.
(Side note: I've almost got it figured it out but "space pirate" is still on the list ... just saying.)
I've attended Western Nevada College, University of Nevada Reno, MCC, and Arizona State University and managed two degrees - Science/Mathematics and Art. Perfect for a photography passion!
An uncle as a professional photographer, a step-father as a published photographer, and a photographer sister published in national magazines at age 16 ALL shooting Nikon really left me no choice but to follow. So, my first "real camera" was a Nikon D50, then a D90, D300s, D500, and D750. I still own most of them. Currently, I shoot a Nikon Z8 (backups - D500/D750). Go-to lenses are my 70-200mm / 2.8, 24-70mm / 2.8, 85mm / 1.4, & 50mm / 1.4 (among others).
